The focused comparison

Jackrabbit Dance
vs. Studio Pro

Two dance school software options. A closer look at billing, scheduling, administration and the decisions to make before you switch.

Jackrabbit Dance and Studio Pro both address the daily work of a dance school: registrations, tuition, family communication and recital administration. The clearest starting distinction is the subscription model. Jackrabbit’s standard pricing depends on student records; Studio Pro uses feature tiers with unlimited students and classes. Then test the details that affect your staff.

Which one belongs on your shortlist?

Evaluate Jackrabbit if you want to test its class, makeup, family-account and costume workflows together. Evaluate Studio Pro if a flat subscription matters and you want to choose among staff-access and lead-management tiers. Neither conclusion establishes that one is easier or more profitable for your school; that needs your workflow test.

These are documented capabilities, not a guarantee that a particular rule is supported in your country or plan. The comparison intentionally leaves undemonstrated workflow details as questions instead of marking them absent.

Price the plan you would actually use

For Jackrabbit, request the tier for all the student records you will retain and ask how archiving works. For Studio Pro, decide whether Essentials is enough or whether permissions, chat or lead automation make a higher plan necessary. Both entry prices are $49, so the starting price alone does little to choose between them.

Studio Pro’s $79 Premier plan is $30 more per month than Essentials, or $360 over 12 months. Elite is $116 more per month than Essentials, or $1,392 over 12 months. These are subscription differences only. Compare the value of the tasks you will use; do not assume the extra tools generate that amount in sales.

Get separate written payment quotes. The reviewed billing pages do not establish one universal merchant rate for either vendor. Include card and ACH availability, transaction charges, refunds, disputes, payout timing and any recurring account fees. Studio Pro also flags communication charges. Neither a subscription total nor a click on a vendor link is a complete cost comparison.

Dance school billing software: test the awkward cases

A standard monthly charge is only the beginning. Bring one real policy document to each demo: a sibling discount, multi-class cap, partial month, missed payment, competition charge and withdrawal. Ask the demonstrator to show when a tuition charge is created, when money is collected and how an adjustment appears on the family ledger.

Jackrabbit documents scheduled drafts and proration. Studio Pro documents Auto-Pay on demand and failed-transaction retries. Test the distinction between posting an amount owed and collecting it; an automated workflow should follow the dates and permissions your school intends.

Run your school’s schedule and recital through both

For dance school scheduling software, bring a week with a shared instructor, two rooms, a private lesson and a makeup. Check who sees changes, which conflicts are blocked and what requires an office intervention. Have an instructor use the relevant class or staff interface.

For recitals, build a short show where the same dancer appears in nearby routines. Review quick-change handling, costume measurements, fees and order records. Jackrabbit documents recital ordering and Word program export. Studio Pro documents stage grids, QR ticket scanning and costume distribution tools. Ask which exports or ticketing services your venue still requires.

Compare enrollment follow-up without promising growth

Studio Pro Elite’s documented Lead Center is relevant when trial inquiries need an owner, reminders and a visible pipeline. Ask Jackrabbit to demonstrate the equivalent process and identify any integration cost. Sending a message is different from assigning a staff member to follow up and recording the result.

Test a new inquiry through trial booking, attendance and paid enrollment. Check that a newly enrolled family stops receiving prospect messages. If connected follow-up is your main requirement, compare Enrollio’s documented CRM workflow alongside these options. That adds a different buying criterion without replacing the operational checks.

Make migration an acceptance test

Both vendors advertise a free import, but the scope matters. Agree on family and student records, class enrollments, opening credits/balances, payment methods, consent records and retained history. A free student-list import should not be read as a promise that every ledger, attachment or saved card transfers.

  1. Export and retain a secure copy of the old system’s records.
  2. Reconcile a test import against family counts and total balances.
  3. Recreate discounts and tuition rules, then compare several family statements.
  4. Test parent access, payment authorization and staff permissions.
  5. Choose a cutover date that prevents duplicate charges and document who resolves exceptions.

Get the import scope and exit/export process in writing before cancelling the existing system.

Questions before you decide

Which is better for a small dance school?

A small school should compare total cost and the tasks its owner repeats, not assume a particular student threshold makes one product better. Test a complete family registration, one billing correction and one staff attendance workflow. Ask for the exact subscription you would need today and next season.

Does a flat student limit make Studio Pro cheaper?

Unlimited students removes one source of subscription changes, but plan upgrades, processing and messaging still matter. Jackrabbit’s current tier and the additional tools you need determine the comparison. Use written quotes for the same period, location count and payment volume.

Can either system replace a profitability spreadsheet?

Management reports support day-to-day operations. A financial plan also needs payroll, rent, owner compensation and cost allocation. Review your class profitability and budget separately so collected tuition is not mistaken for operating profit.

Check the financial effect before switching

Add the proposed software cost to your break-even and enrollment calculation, or use the dance studio budget template and class profitability planners to consider it across the season.
